MTV has hired Brian “B. Dot” Miller as its new lead music correspondent for MTV News, Billboard exclusively confirms.

In his new role (which was officially secured in April), Miller will help the network enhance its storytelling across all genres with a focus on hip-hop. This includes developing new music franchises, covering live events and moderating one-on-one interviews with new digital series like Office Hours. The series, which kicked off in April with guests like Wallows and PinkSweat$, will have emerging acts give a combination of an intimate performance and interview in the MTV News space.

“MTV is such a storied, legendary brand. I grew up idolizing correspondents like Sway, Ananda Lewis and Kurt Loder,” Miller tells Billboard. “So to follow in those footsteps, it’s a big responsibility. I’m ready to take on that challenge of carrying a legacy that presents music in its highest form. I think I’m bringing in a new voice, as someone who is credible in the hip-hop space and is for the culture. I grew up on the brand, so I know the importance of it and how to represent it the right way.”

Miller joins MTV from TIDAL, where he will continue to co-host the Rap Radar podcast alongside Elliott Wilson, who serves as TIDAL’s director of culture & content. The podcast has featured notable guests like Jay-Z, Will Smith and Nipsey Hussle. Miller’s 15-year career includes previous roles like the content director for RapRadar.com and senior director of editorial and playlists at Epic Records.

“Growing up it meant something when you were being interviewed by MTV News. Holding that microphone was like a sign that your arrived in your career,” he continues. “So I want our conversations to feel special and have a lasting impact. It’s about adapting. I know most of the newer generation of music fans are on social media platforms. So It’s going to be my job to bridge the gap and deliver content they find interesting and engaging.”
